Parish Groups

Introduction to Parish Groups to be supplied.

Women’s Fellowship

We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 2.p.m.

Meetings are very informal and sometimes we meet in members homes with a speaker or in a coffee shop for lunch or afternoon tea. Our membership fee is $10.00 annually and when we meet in member’s homes we hold a bring and buy table. At the end of the year depending on how many funds we have, we donate to worthy causes such as the hospital chaplains etc. During the year we visit any sick parishioners and we also knit garments for needy children. The leadership is shared between:

Diane Hubbard – 021 1634251
d.hubbard@xtra.co.nz

Kirsty Sharpe – 021 0410076
kirstyjsharpe@gmail.com

Jocelyn Davenport – 03 4429818     djdavenport@xtra.co.nz

All women are welcome and transport can be organised if one of the above is contacted.

Missions

The Anglican Churches in the Diocese of Dunedin have identified five marks of Mission. These we seek to exemplify and pursue as Churches and individual followers of Jesus Christ. We support our Anglican Mission and New Zealand Church Missionary Society (NZCMS) Partners in prayer and financially to the level of $5000/yr

Scott and Nikki Wheeler.
Kapuna, Paapua New Guinea

Dr Nick & Tessa Laing.
Gulu, North Uganda

We continue to  support Dr Nick & Tessa Laing who have worked in Gulu, North Uganda, a remote rural area for the past 13 years. Tessa works as Peace & Justice Coordinator with the Anglican Diocese of N Uganda helping rural citizens fight for their land rights.  Dr. Nick coordinates about 40 Anglican Health Centres called ‘One Day Health’ and is seeking to launch new centres every year, extending healthcare to rural poor people. Their approach has recently been accepted into the prestigious London School of Economics 100 X Accelerator Programme which identifies, invests in, and accelerates the most promising social enterprises. Nick writes’ Besides the funding and a heap of technical support we hope to embark on a large-scale research program on how’ One Day Health’ impacts on our communities.’  Visit https//ugandapanda.com.

Marlene Van Tonder.
Africa Inland Mission

The Parish continues to support Marlene Van Tonder, an NZ Missionary working for the past 10 years in a remote rural area of South Sudan with the Africa Inland Mission. South Sudan is one of the poorest countries in Africa. She has been involved in developing local education services, team leadership and training, and church planting with Sudanese pastors. Marlene was a member of the Anglican Church, St Peters in Queenstown for several years, she also taught at the Kings View Christian School in Frankton.

The Parish also regularly supports the Anglican Missions Lenten Appeal and the Christian World Service  Christmas Appeal. We try also to respond to emergency appeals such as the Anglican Missions appeal for the Anglican Al Alhi Hospital in north Gaza as well as supporting Barnabas Aid in its work for those persecuted for their faith in Jesus Christ.

The Parish Vestry has set up a social fund for local people in particular need.
